Back from Disney!

Sadly I am back from Disney....

It was HOT- it was rainy- it was Magical!

On Monday night we arrived and went to The Boardwalk at the Yacht Club for some ice cream at Beaches and Cream. You can sort of see the fireworks from there. It is at the very least a nice place to check out if you have the time.

On Tuesday we went to Disney's Hollywood Studios ( it will always be MGM to me). We did so much, and did not wait in a line more than 15minutes for any ride. We rode Tower of Terror twice, the Rockin Roller Coaster, The Great Movie Ride, saw the American Idol Experience 3 times, saw Muppets 3D, saw the High School Musical Parade a few times, saw the Beauty and the Beast show, did the Star Wars ride and
Then we ate at the 50s Prime Time Cafe. I had never eaten there before but I can not wait to eat there again. Fantastic in every which way. Also during the day we had a frozen lemonade drink and rice krispie treats. Plus all the free water we could possibly drink.
It did rain for about an hour, so we sat and people watched. Sometimes its nice to just have that break to relax and enjoy being there.
This is my umbrella trying to protect me from the rain that was coming in sideways!

Tomorrow I will continue with my day at Epcot.

Don't forget to enter our giveaway to win one of 5 Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts giftcards!

How to coupon at Rite Aid

As you know I like to shop at Rite Aid- as of right now I have bought $346.71 worth of items and only paid $58.46, this year.

Knowing how to shop at Rite Aid is very important to the success of your couponing, so for this weeks Couponing 101 lesson, I am going to tell you everything you need to know about how to shop at Rite Aid.

The First thing you should know about are Single Check Rebates or SCR- I tend to avoid these deals because I think its a lot of extra effort, but I am not stopping you! The Single Check Rebate program is simple- you buy the current Single Check Rebate products, then submit your receipts online then get a check in the mail. You can find out which products are part of that months SCR program by going here.
You can actually use manufacturer coupons to turn these SCR deals into money makers. If the product cost $4 and you are going to get a $4SCR back, and you use a $2 off coupon-you will actually make $2 by buying that product. Once you fill out your information on the SCR site you can request your rebate and be mailed a check-only one per month.

The next part of Rite Aid shopping is using their store coupons. These can be found in the weekly circular that is mailed to you/found in store. Since these are store coupons you can stack them with a manufacturers coupon for super savings.

You can also use their Video Values Program coupons. These are short videos that you watch-advertisements actually. At the end you can print your coupons. These can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for extra savings.

The newest way to save big at Rite Aid is their Wellness+ Program, basically it is a store card where you earn points that will eventually lead to 10% or 20% your total in store purchase for a year! You also automatically get 10% off all Rite Aid Brand products every day. This card also gets you Up+Rewards, which print at the bottom of your receipt, you can then use these like cash on your next purchase.

Be sure to check out the Rite Aid Coupon Policy for all other information you might need.

How to use Recyclebank for coupons

I wanted to let you know about Recycle bank, incase you do not already, because it is an excellent way to get high value or even free product coupons with very little effort or time.

One of the ways I get high value coupons, such as $2 off Kashi cereal is by using Recycle bank. Recycle bank is a website that rewards you for recycling, or you can take short quizzes or type in point codes to rack up points to trade in towards coupons, magazine subscriptions or other prizes.

Register (use an email address you use just for freebies ect) and you'll earn 20 points

Take these 1 minute quizes and earn:
Join the eBay Green Team, to get 50 free points.
Go to PET plastic bottles to get 30 free points.
Look for the Miller Quiz to get 10 free points.
Take the Naked Juice quiz to get 30 points

Then you will already have 130 points

Plus there are other games on the site you can play for an extra at least 100 points!

Couponing Tips and Tricks

Couponing is becoming more and more popular as people start looking for ways to cut their expenses and save more money. They see people on TV getting huge amounts of products for next to nothing!

Them paying next to nothing is not exactly true- they have to pay for the coupons. They have to buy the news paper, or buy mass amounts of a particular coupon, or for the die  hard ones dumpster dive.

Here is my best advice if you want to coupon and have a normal amount of products in your house-nothing extreme. Just buying what you would normally buy only saving a lot of money while doing it. I get one paper every week- that is all you need for a family of 1-3, if you have a larger family maybe 2 papers, but that's all you need trust me! I bought a subscription to my local paper $20 for 20 weeks, which is half the cost of buying the Sunday paper in a store every week.

Another tip is to make a list of all the products that you love or would want to try. If there are products that you do not like- there is no need to buy them even if there is a good sale. It is easy to get carried away. I like one type of toothpaste- it normally costs upwards of $5, I could get 10 tubes of cheaper toothpaste each week for completely free- but I do not see the point. I wait until the brand I like is on sale where I can get it free or next to free then buy 2-3 tubes of it to last me until the next sale.

Be willing to try new stores- I was dead set against using coupons at the drug stores, but now I do and in this year alone this is what I have been able to do:
  • CVS I have paid $21.52 for $155.37 worth of products and gotten $36.04 in rewards back
  • Rite Aid I have paid $58.46 for $346.71 worth of products and gotten $70.76 in rewards back
  • Walgreens I have paid $30.50 for $102.86 worth of products and gotten $7.99 in rewards back

If you every see a coupon for B1G1-save it, drugstores have B1G1 sales all the time and pairing the sale with this coupon will mean 2 products for free!

If you have a B1G1 coupon and a coupon for $1 or some other amount off,  you can use both coupons when purchasing 2 products to save more money. Always check your stores coupon policy to be sure!

Couponing 101 is now going to be a weekly post-if you have any questions for me be sure to leave a comment and I will answer you right away!

Getting Started couponing

I was just thinking about how I have yet to write a Couponing 101 post.... It is important to know the lingo, that way it is easier to find coupons and know exactly what the deals I post mean.

When coupon match ups are posted it looks something like this

Huggies Diapers $8.99
use $2 off coupon from 4/17SS
Final Cost $6.99

In this case, you need to look at your Smart Source coupon insert from the April 17th paper. In it you will find the coupon.

The other news paper insert abbreviation's are:
SS-Smart Source
RP-Red Plum
GM- General Mills
P&G- Proctor and Gamble

There are also abbreviations for the Rewards you get back at the 3 major Drug stores-
ECB- stands for Extra Care Bucks, which you receive at CVS
RR-stands for Register Rewards, which you receive at Walgreens
Up+- stands for Up+Rewards, which you receive at Rite Aid

All three of these Rewards print off with you receipt, then you can use them like cash the next time you shop at that specific drug store. These Rewards help lower your total out of pocket expense while shopping.

You might see me post a deal like this:

Huggies Diapers $8.99
use $2 off coupon from 4/17SS
Get back $2ECB
Final Cost $4.99 after ECB

This does not mean you are paying $4.99 out of pocket, it means you are paying $6.99 out of pocket, but since you are getting back $2ECB which you can use on your next purchase at the store-it is like paying $4.99.

*Also hold onto your coupon inserts until they expire. Put the date you received them on the front of the pile and you will easily be able to grab it and find the coupon you need.

If you have any questions let me know, I know it can be a little confusing at first :)

My Financial and Purchasing Goals for the rest of 2011- week 1

Here are the goals I plan to have finished by the end of this year, I would love to hear your goals as well. I know that sometimes they can be tough, but goals are a great way to stay on budget! These are in no particular order.

1. Add an extra $1000 to my savings account (I won't be mad if I am able to add more!)
I did not add any money to my savings this week- because I was getting ready for vacation.

2. Buy a new 32inch+ Flat Screen for my bedroom
I haven't even started looking- honestly I want this to be a birthday present!

3. Save $25+ per week between now and my trip to Ireland for spend money

This will start as soon as I get back from Disney- can't wait!

4. Buy a steam carpet cleaner

This is another one I would like for my birthday, but I did see I could buy one for around $100!

5. Make sure all credit cards are paid off in full each month
No payments were do this week :)

I am going to make these goals happen by:
  • Saving all of the extra money that I do not spend in my budget
  • Working extra hours when I can
  • Using coupons/sales to get the best possible price on items I need to buy
  • Buying only what I need, not what I want

How are you doing with your Financial Goals this week

Free water in Disney

My best tip is ask for a cup of ice water at all service counters. It is completely free :)

Things to think about before buying a car

I was just sitting here thinking about how much I would love a mid-sized SUV right about now.
Five years ago when I leased my Acura I thought I would have it for the 3 year lease term and hand it back in- HA!

Having a lease is a very tricky thing:
If you go over the miles you get slammed with charges 15cents per mile in my case.
If there is anything wrong with the car you get charged as well- luckily I would have been fine there

Leasing a car is not all bad though. If you can stay under miles or close to them and keep it looking nice then you'll be fine.

It also makes affording that high end car that much easier. Because cars with a higher value at the end of the lease term tend to have lower monthly payments than a car that will be worth a lot less than the original price at the end of lease term.

So while I most likely will never lease again (because I drive wayyy to much) here are a few things I would do if looking at a lease again:

Make sure you get at least 10% off the invoice price. Even though its a lease you can still talk down the price.

I did not put any money down, $3,000 down would have only saved me $30 a month-no thanks that's throwing money away.

If you are trading in your car, know what its worth at dealer value and do not go under that for any reason. Another car dealer will gladly pay full value for your business.

Finally, make sure the car will fit your lifestyle while you have it. If you have a 3 year lease on a sports car will you be having children or pets that will make it hard to use? Or will you live in "Tropical Albany"

Couponing- ways to get coupons

One of my best tips is finding coupons in places other than the Sunday Paper, or Coupons.com. You can find coupons on:
  •  Company Facebook websites- companies are always having promotions on their facebook fan pages, they do giveaways as well as release high value coupons. If you do not want to be a fan of all these companies- try making a facebook page with your junk email account- these way you get access to the coupons/giveaways without them cluttering your newsfeed
    • I have gotten so many coupons and free products from being a Facebook fan- free hair dye, free shampoo, free razors, free food and more!
  • You can also find coupons on the company websites! If you have a specific product in mind go to their website and see what coupons are being offered.
    • A few months ago Special K had a B1G1 coupon on their site, combined with a B1G1 sale I was able to get 4 boxes of Special K free- a $20 value!
  • If you email companies and tell them what you like or do not like about their product they might send you coupons as a thank you, this is a great way to help a company know how their product is being received as well as helping you save money so you can continue to buy their product.
    • I have been doing this a lot recently- as long as I have something valid to say I think it is worth emailing a company-it takes 2minutes and it helps everyone!
Do you have any other ways you get coupons?

Recycle Bank- a way to earn coupons for free products and more

Couponing 101: How to Shop at Rite Aid
