Thrifty Thursday

So this week for Thrifty Thursday we are going to talk about price points at which I buy some products. I think when you have an idea of what a great sale price is you'll be more willing to pass up buying something when you know you can get it for a lower cost.

These are a few of my price points and why:

Shampoo- under $1
The under $1 price point for shampoo is very easy to get. This includes big name expensive brands that normally cost $4+

Cereal- under $1.50
There are sales on cereal all the time, just have to be aware of them. I just bought 3boxes of kashi cereal for free, and I am waiting for Rite Aid to have Special K back in stock to get 4boxes for free there as well. Much better than the $4+ price it normally is!

Cleaning products- varies but for the most part $1 or less
This price is for name brand products, I never pay more than $1-there is no point!

I will make sure to let you know when these products go on sale and where!

Happy thursday :)

Tidy Tuesday

This weeks Tidy Tuesday tip is one I do all the time!

Clean while cooking- or boiling water or brewing coffee. These things happen everyday anyways, why not take those few minutes to clean the kitchen.

You can:
-Clorox wipe the countertops, table and chairs.
-Throw away out of date food in the refridge.
-Load or Unload the dishwasher or run it.
-Swiffer the floor

One, some, or all of these things can be done in the time it takes to boil water or make a pot of coffee. A clean kitchen is always nice to come home to :)

Expense Tracker

I just used this Expense Tracker and I am quite impressed. It lists every single expense you could possibly have, and you fill in your monthly expenses for each category. Then at the end you get advice on what you should do.

My advice was to get up to an 8 month emergency savings fund- and it gave the exact amount I need as well as how much more money I need to get there (WOW!).
Also I assume that if you were making less than you were spending it would suggest ways to reduce your bills/expenses....

I think it is worth a look!

A note about credit cards...

I have talked about budgeting and how you should have a budget and stick to it so that you can save more money over time. I have mentioned that some people do this by not using credit cards at all.

I happen to think that credit cards are fine to use, if you do it properly. They are a great way to help raise your credit score. You just have to follow a few simple guidelines:

-Try to never have more than 30% of your credit limit used. If your limit is $1000, never have more than $300 spent.
-Paying the card off every month is a great way to avoid interest charges, but paying off a large amount one month(say $200 of the $300) then paying the other $100 off the following month shows credit card companies that you can pay off charges as well as make payments. Plus the interest would be minimal under $5.
-This one seems simple enough-pay the card on time. If need be set up an auto-payment every month or have them send a reminder email.
-Also if you use your credit card regularly-make sure you have one that rewards you with cash or points.
-If you never use your credit card try having one of your monthly bills get charged to it, like your cell phone. This way you know you can pay it every month and you will be working towards a better credit score.
